The RESPECT Seminar presents unique insights into the mental illness, the treatment and the recovery experiences. The RESPECT Seminar emphasizes the dynamic relationship betweeen the caregiver and the consumer and illustrates critical experiences that lead to empowering relationships and healing, or conversely, to disrespect and prolonged pain.
The RESPECT Seminar is designed to train professional caregivers, family members and peers in the fundamentals of caring for persons with mental illness. Frequently, caregivers are instructed to respect persons with mental illness without being offered an operational definintion of the word. Consequently, many caregivers become focused on their routine tasks and complicated treatment models that they compromise the basic sensitivity and respect toward the consumers they serve.
The seminar is built around the word RESEPCT. Presented in a very personal manner, the resepect seminar is upbeat, insightful, optimistic, but poignant as Mr. Slack recounts his personal experiences.
Joel Slack created the RESPECT Seminar and presents it outside of the United States through RESPECT INTERNATIONAL. Within the United States, Mr. Slack provides the seminar, as well as other professional services, through his private company, Slack Consulting, LLC. To date, the RESPECT Seminar has been presented to over 300,000 persons worldwide.
